School-wide Reading/Writing StrategiesNo matter the content area, students are expected to read and write. At Walker, we strive for consistency! We want reading and writing to be a fluid process; where they are more focused on depth of knowledge and metacognition in their learning. Therefore, we created universal reading and writing steps/strategies to use. In 6th grade reading, students will explicitly be taught these steps and strategies. The students will then apply that knowledge through other content areas (such as science, world history, etc.) In 7th and 8th grade, students continue to use these steps and strategies in all of their courses! By this time, with practice, these strategies will feel automatic as the students read and write.
